How it started

Sexton Brothers Construction started as a conversation between Joey and Josh Sexton in 2017. Josh had been in the construction industry for years. Joey had recently returned to construction after serving in the Air Force and completing his master’s degree. Joey and Josh convinced brother Micah to join the new company.  Sexton Brothers Construction, LLC was in business.

About 9 months later, a structural engineer called.  He said he had a backlog of 40 engineering reports where customers needed foundation repairs. He offered to train us in all things foundation and waterproofing if we would help him help his clients. We agreed.

We learned to perform repairs and water mitigation to his specifications. We also learned to assess foundation and water situations that may not require engineered designs. We learned to develop and implement creative solutions to the unique challenges faced by homeowners in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

500+ foundations later, we continue to grow and prosper as we serve the needs of our customers. We love the personal and professional relationships that developed over the years. We enjoy the challenges presented by this unique terrain and wet climate. And we love the satisfaction of a job well done.

Meet the Team

  • President

Joey is the first person you’ll meet at Sexton Brothers Construction. Joey will visit your property or construction site, discuss the requirements, and present an estimate. He began as a carpenter remodeling cabins, building custom homes and large commercial projects. Joey joined the Air Force and served at Arlington National Cemetery as a member of the elite Air Force Honor Guard. In late 2010 Joey left active duty service and joined the NC Air National Guard until his separation in 2013. Joey has served as an executive pastor for a local church and as Youth Minister. Joey holds a BS in Religion: Biblical and Theological Studies and an MA in Business. Both are from Liberty University. Joey married his wonderful wife, Courtney, in 2007. They have two incredible little boys Eben and Emmett.

  • Chief Operating Officer

Josh began working at 17 years old as a laborer on a framing crew. Over the past 20 years, he has become knowledgeable and proficient in many aspects of residential and commercial construction. Josh has been married to his high-school sweetheart since he was 21, and they have two beautiful daughters together. When he is not working, he spends his time going to softball, basketball, and volleyball games that his girls are playing.

Josh also loves movies, watching college and professional sports, playing golf, and Playstation.

He is not a fan of long walks on the beach.

  • Partner

Bob is an entrepreneur and retired software company founder. He joined Sexton Brothers Construction as an advisor and mentor in 2022. Bob served during the Viet Nam war as a U. S. Army Special Forces officer where he commanded a Special Forces A-Team. His professional career began in the energy industry where he witnessed a business problem which led to the start of what became a global software solution company. Bob is a graduate of the University of Texas (BBA 1969) and UCLA (MBA 1983). Happily married to Robyn and the proud father of two sons. Proudly served our nation as Commanding Officer, Special Forces Detachment A-235 5th Special Forces Group, Viet Nam.

  • Director of External Communications

When you call or email Sexton Brothers, you will probably speak to Courtney first. Courtney handles all of our scheduling processes, along with overseeing our communications and billing.

Courtney has been married to Joey since 2007. While he served in the Air Force Honor Guard, she worked on Joint Base Anacostia/Bolling. Over the 3 years she worked on base, she rose quickly from a part-time lifeguard, to the pool supervisor, to the Assistant Director of Outdoor Recreation for the base, to the Marina Manager.

Since she and Joey returned home, Courtney has worked as a pharmacy technician, and then as a Project Coordinator for a structural engineering firm covering the Southeast.

Courtney and Joey have two boys. She loves being outside with them, and with her dogs, chickens, and horses. She still loves walking in the woods, going fishing with her dad, and going on dates with Joey. And marrying her is, of course, the best decision Joey ever made.
